Dental Implants

Dental implants are a popular treatment for replacing missing teeth. They provide a strong and natural-looking alternative to removable dentures or bridges.

They can also be used to support a partial or full denture, allowing the wearer to enjoy increased comfort and confidence in eating, speaking, and smiling. When an implant is placed, it stimulates the bone in the area to maintain its strength and prevent it from resorbing.

Typically, dental implants are made from titanium, a material that is bio-compatible with human bone tissue. Titanium offers strength and durability, and it is able to fuse directly with the bone in a process known as osseointegration. This creates a solid foundation for the restoration, which may be a single tooth, several teeth in a row (a bridge), or an entire upper or lower jaw. In addition to titanium, zirconium is a promising new material for dental implants. It has a similar appearance to titanium, but it does not cause any allergic reactions in most patients.

The success rate of dental implants is quite high, with 93-98 percent of them lasting 10 years or more. In the rare cases where implants fail, it is usually because of bone loss around the implant or because of mechanical failure in the implant itself. Because of this, many dentists offer dental implant treatment, although some have more experience with it than others. You should always choose a highly trained, experienced dentist to perform this procedure for you.잠실치과

Before you receive a dental implant, your dentist will assess whether this is a good option for you. He or she will take X-rays to determine the amount of bone present in your upper and lower jaws. If the underlying bone is thin or there are significant gum problems, a bone graft may be required before an implant can be placed. The graft must heal for four to six months before the surgeon can place the implant post (the equivalent of an artificial tooth root).

Once the implant has integrated into the bone, a metal spacer called an abutment is screwed on top of it. Then a crown, which is custom-made to match your existing teeth, is placed on the abutment.송파치과

Your general health is important because the healing process after implant placement can be disrupted by certain chronic illnesses, such as diabetes or leukemia. Infections in the mouth can damage an implant, and they can also spread to surrounding teeth and bones. To ensure a good prognosis, you should maintain a healthy lifestyle and schedule regular visits to the dentist.

You should also inform your dentist if you smoke or have any other chronic illness that could interfere with healing after an implant procedure. Smoking can significantly increase your risk of infection, and it may even delay or complicate your recovery. You should also call the dentist immediately if you have any pain, as this can be an indication of an infection. If you don’t, the infection can continue to grow and might lead to the failure of your implant.
