Hair Transplantation – How It Works

Hair transplantation (HT) is a surgical procedure that moves healthy hairs to areas of the scalp where they’re thinning or balding. It’s an option for people with male or female pattern baldness, a receding hairline, or thinning eyebrows and mustaches. Unlike the hair plugs of the past, today’s techniques give patients natural-looking results that even a barber or stylist can’t detect.

During the follicular unit strip surgery (FUSS) or follicular unit extraction (FUE) procedure, your surgeon cleans and numbs the area on the back of your head where the hairs will be moved. They then remove a 6- to 10-inch strip of skin from the scalp at the back of your head. This is called your donor site. The surgeon then closes the site with stitches.

Your surgeon then divides the strip into as many as 2,000 smaller sections, each containing one or more hairs. They use a scalpel or another instrument to cut these sections of hair into tiny pieces, each about the size of the tip of a pencil eraser. Each transplanted graft contains multiple hairs, which are used to fill in bald or thinning areas of the scalp.

The surgeon then opens small holes or slits in the bald or thinning areas of your scalp, using a needle or blade. The surgeon then carefully places each graft in its new location. During a single treatment session, your doctor may transplant hundreds or even thousands of hairs.

Once the grafts are in place, your doctor will cover them with gauze or bandages. They’ll probably also trim and shape your transplanted hairs. You’ll need a few weeks to get used to your new hairline, but it will eventually grow in naturally. In the meantime, it’s normal to experience itching or irritation at the treatment sites.

In the days following your hair restoration procedure, you should wash your hair gently with mild shampoos. You can usually resume your regular activities within a few days, though you should avoid vigorous physical activity until your doctor tells you it’s safe. It’s also normal to see some crusting or scabs on the treatment areas for five to ten days.강남헤어라인

You may also experience a temporary loss of some of your original hairs around the time they start growing in, which is known as shock loss. This is normal, and it will usually resolve on its own in a few months.

You’ll need to visit your doctor for follow-up appointments at four to six-month intervals. These visits help your doctor track your progress and assess whether you need more grafts or other treatments. 무모증모발이식 Depending on your needs, these follow-ups might include blood tests or an ultrasound of your scalp to check for any abnormalities. Your doctor might also ask you to wear a special hat or use a hair covering to protect your head during this time. During your appointment, your doctor will also examine your scalp to see how well the grafts are growing in.
